If the election was held today, I would vote for Obama because the Republicans have got NOTHING to offer.

Less than five months to go and the Republicans have absolutely
NOTHING to offer.

Even the Republicans in private will admit it...the GOP is in

Obama gets my vote at this time.

In that case, you prove yourself to be dumber than we all thought.

Without enumerating the qualifications of Romney, or any other republican,
one thing is certain:

He is NOT Obama.

That should be enough to get any rational person to vote republican. In
this case, the devil we know is considerably worse than devils we don't
know.

Of course he will. Romney is a horrible candidate. He's almost as bad a
candidate as Bob Dole or John McCain. That's the problem. These
republicans are simply very poor candidates. Romney is one of the 1%
that most Americans think are responsible for their own bad economic
situation. It was only four years ago that the republican presided over
the worst financial collapse since the Depression. We haven't forgotten
that already. We know who was running things when that happened. Romney
keeps saying he wants to do the same things Bush did. How can anyone
want to see that again? We don't have enough crazy people in the country
to want another Bush type presidency. The result; Obama wins a second
term, and the country and the economy will be all the better for it.

I disagree George.

When Obama was elected, we were economically in freefall headed into
The Great Depression 2.0....a death spiral.

He and his policies have been able to stay the death spiral and the
Country has slowly climbed out of it.

Even now as growth slows there is no expectation of a second
recession.

To me that is very impressive results considering the dead weight the
Republicans have been...whining and bitching all the way...what a
bunch of pikers.

Remember those Bush tax cuts that the Republicans made the Country
take....500 BILLION dollars of revenue lost when the Country needs it
the most.

All of this on the Republicans.

They are lucky that they haven't been lynched by America for what they
have done to this Country..

That's because half the country is so damned dumb that they don't even
know it was the republicans' fault that we got so fucked up. Americans
have lost 40% of their entire wealth and instead of taking it out on the
rich and the republicans they blame public workers like firemen,
policemen, and teachers. I must say the propaganda from the right has
worked better than anticipated. It has convinced about half the
population that workers of their own class are their enemies and that
the 1% are their friends. It's hard to believe so many can be so dumb
but that's the way it is.

A recent poll that came out says that the majority of Americans hold
Bush and his party responsible for the financial mess we're in. TMT has
mentioned this poll too. I've seen it. It's clear who the public holds

We know the republicans had control of the mortgage markets from 2001
all the way up to 2007. Anything that went wrong happened in that time
period. There is no rational way you can make the crisis the work of the
Democrats when the republicans held all the power when the decisions
that created the mess were made. The decisions that ruined us were made
by the republicans. They were in power. End of story. You just have to

Just about ALL financial institutions abandoned responsible lending
practices during that period. Is that the work of the Democrats too? We
know that the republicans forced deregulation on the financial industry
and that lack of regulation allowed them to get away with the
irresponsible lending. That WAS the work of the republicans. They told
the lenders that there were no rules they would enforce and do whatever
you want. We saw how that turned out.

No, they didn't. Try reading a book on the problem. It was all brought
on by the lax regulations that the republicans gave us. Investment banks
were lending from 44 to 100 times what they had in reserve. They were
accidents waiting to happen. All because nobody was watching them. That
came straight from the top. No rules and no regulations. Do whatever you
want to make money. See how that works. We told you so. You folks never

I don't know what his problem is but he's gone off the deep end. He just
keeps insisting that things happened the way he thinks they did even
though it's easy enough to check the facts, which show he's wrong.
Lending to low income families didn't have any effect on the financial
crisis and while Fanny and Freddy were badly mismanaged and did play
some role in the financial crisis, they sure weren't a large part of it.
As all the evidence shows, it was Wall Street and deregulation that were
at the heart of the crisis. You can't tell that to Pimpton and he seems
to have no access to the facts. I think he's lost his job and has
started to drink heavily. He's making no sense at all anymore. Before he
was abrasive and abusive but not irrational but now he seems to have
completely lost his wits.

households when it came to lending. It's also true that the housing
problems were largely avoided by this group of borrowers. They were not
the reason we had problems in the markets. It was the unregulated market
that failed just like it does every time fools like the republicans
eliminate the rules and regulations.

You're in error. That isn't what happened. It was lenders gone wild that
caused the system to fail. It wasn't the borrowers fault. It was the
lenders who blew it. They controlled who they lent money to and they
gave it to anyone with a pulse. So blame those who aren't to blame.
That's what you always do anyway.

Just about ALL financial institutions abandoned responsible lending
practices during that period.
Because the fucking *Democrats* put rules in place that forced them to
do so.
The government didn't make lenders like Countrywide give loans to people
with no jobs, no money, and no down payment. They did that on their own
volition and that is what caused the failure. It was their irresponsible
lending that messed things up not the government forcing them to make
more loans to the poor.

You can try to blame everything on the GSEs but they played a minor role
in the financial mess.
They played a *HUGE* role in it.
No, they didn't.
Yes, they did.
You can deny it all you like but you can't prove a thing you allege. In
fact that is all you do is make wild claims and they say yes the did.
You haven't a leg to stand on for anything you say. You're ignorant,
irrelevant, and a lightweight, that doesn't know what the hell you are

Actually, they know that it is, of course, the fault of the Democrats.
No,
A recent poll that came out says that the majority of Americans hold Bush
and his party responsible for the financial mess we're in. TMT has
mentioned this poll too. I've seen it. It's clear who the public holds

The biggest problem is that the GSEs abandoned any pretense of sound
underwriting criteria.

In 1999, Fannie Mae [and Freddie Mac, of course] came under
pressure from the Clinton administration to expand mortgage loans
to low and moderate income borrowers by increasing the ratios of
their loan portfolios in distressed inner city areas designated in
the CRA of 1977. Additionally, institutions in the primary
mortgage market pressed Fannie Mae to ease credit requirements on
the mortgages it was willing to purchase

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fannie_Mae

Add President Clinton to the long list of people who deserve a
share of the blame for the housing bubble and bust. A recently
re-exposed document shows that his administration went to
ridiculous lengths to increase the national homeownership rate. It
promoted paper-thin downpayments and pushed for ways to get
lenders to give mortgage loans to first-time buyers with shaky
financing and incomes. It’s clear now that the erosion of lending
standards pushed prices up by increasing demand, and later led to
waves of defaults by people who never should have bought a home in
the first place.

http://www.businessweek.com/the_thread/hotproperty/archives/2008/02/clintons_drive.html

"In a move that could help increase home ownership rates among
minorities and low-income consumers, the Fannie Mae Corporation is
easing credit requirements on loans that it will purchase . . .
[to] encourage . . . banks to extend home mortgages to individuals
whose credit is generally not good . . . . Fannie Mae is taking on
significantly more risk."

Why not? Rating agencies like Moody's and Standard & Poors were telling
them those investments were triple A rated. They depended on that just
like everybody else did. Nobody was watching the rating agencies either.
But why would they? republicans weren't watching any business. They
thought it was best to let business do anything it wanted. That was
wrong wasn't it?

Seminars on how to rescore erroneous credit ratings are

underhanded about correcting them.

And how were Fannie and Freddie supposed to know that?
The rating agencies were hired by the mortgage originators and
so were the real estate appraisers and the credit checks on borrowers.
Fannie and Freddie had no access to the specific loan content
of bundled loans other than the paperwork submitted by the mortgage
originators, credit agencies and appraisers.

Then tell us what the default level is for loans to people in that

that they have a better record than just about any other group when it

That's because half the country is so damned dumb that they don't even

have lost 40% of their entire wealth and instead of taking it out on the
rich and the republicans they blame public workers like firemen,
policemen, and teachers. I must say the propaganda from the right has
worked better than anticipated. It has convinced about half the
population that workers of their own class are their enemies and that
the 1% are their friends. It's hard to believe so many can be so dumb
but that's the way it is.

I'm reading Chris Hedges book Death of the Liberal Class right now.
You're right that not much is really being done to either punish or reel
in the same culprits that did us in. But that only goes to show how
their power has made them immune to government control, and having the
republican party working to stop any regulation of their industry makes
it nearly impossible to do anything to keep them from doing things just
the way they did they in the past. In other words, we're still screwed
even with Obama in the White House. People don't seem to know it but
there are definite limits to what a president can do. Obama has learned

Scumbag Obama's going to lose
No matter how the election goes, it's "we the people" who are going to

Yes, we all get it. You're voting for Romney. You support Romney for
president. Say it any way you want it's the same. You pick the
republican just like you did when Bush ran. You also thought the same
thing then as you do now, that the republican would do a good job. Well,
the last one did a horrible job and this guy Romney is maybe even worse
than Bush, but you aren't bright enough to see Romney isn't qualified
for the job. No military experience, a rich elite that has had
everything handed to him, a cult member(mormon), someone willing to
change any position to get votes, and a guy with little experience in
government. But all you see is someone better than what we have. He's
not and he's not going to win. You're lucky and you don't even realize it.

You're being way too negative and gloomy. It's not as bad as you think.
We are moving ahead but you don't notice it because it happens slower
than you can perceive. Obama is moving us in a direction away from what
Bush had us in. In fact, we went off in the wrong direction with the
election of Ronald Reagan and have been going wrong ever since. But that
is how it works. We make mistakes and then correct them. We made a
mistake following the conservatives for the last three decades. Look
where it got us. So now we are going to embark on a new direction that
will address many of the things that we did wrong. Mainly we went wrong
by giving all the power to business and corporations and letting old
fashioned backward looking thinkers run the nation.

We are going to move in a new direction now because it's clear to just
about everyone we've been doing things wrong. We can see that because of
how badly everything seems. The pendulum is about to swing in the other
direction and we are going to see a return to populism and a curtailing
of corporate power. I think the citizen's united decision was the high
water mark for the corporations. They are now going to be reined in. I
believe that the idea of corporations being "people" is going to be
changed. When that happens they will lose a lot of their power. Power
will swing back in the direction of the people and we are going to have
a whole new generation of leaders coming up that don't think like the
old white republicans do. You just have to watch carefully because to us
the changes take place slowly. But they do take place. In 100 years
people will say that things really changed quickly back in our time.

Obama has learned
that in spades.
Hedges contends the Democrats are working even harder
than Republicans to maintain corporate power. Obama
will be re-elected as long as he continues to
to be the stronger supporter of the corporations.
That's the way things seem to be going. But if you look at who is

I agree 100%. The unfortunate corollary is that this is
also 100% true for the Democrats, in the aggregate.

As I have posted before, the major (and most minor, e.g. U.K
Liberal Democrats) political parties are bankrupt, sadly,
not in the financial sense, as this would solve many
problems, but in the intellectual, ideological, ethical,
social, community/commonwealth, etc. sense.

The world has changed drastically and suddenly in the areas
of socio-economics and geo-politics (among many others), but
the parties involved are still wandering around, lost in a
fog of their own making/denial, assuming the conditions that
existed when they first came to power still exist, and their
traditional elixirs, potions, spells, incantations, chants,
slogans, etc. retain their mystical/mythical powers.

IMNSHO it is time for our "leadership," political,
financial, industrial, and yes military, to either "put up"
or "shut up," and let someone else with another
program/model "have a go." Clearly the existing tacit
reactionary elitist socio-economic model is no longer viable
(just ask the Irish, Spanish and Greeks), and I would
greatly prefer to see something other than the French or
Russian models of socio-economic/political change...

You are dumber now then you were in 2008.
If you could watch this asshole for 3.5 years and pick him over a dead
chicken you just ain't that bright.

I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It's the only way to
be sure.
What I like about this attitude is it works equally well for Iran and the
Democrat National Covention.

LOL...I consistently pick winners.
And you...well McCain/Palin tells it all.

SO you voted for Bush? Twice?- Hide quoted text -

In a matter of speaking.. I wagered that Bush would be elected/
reelected and won a considerable amount of money.

I also bet against Bush during his term and have made a ton of money.

Republicans are so predictable.

And seriously...can anyone say that we are better because Bush was in
office?

You won't admit it but you would be richer if Gore had been elected.

Consider it an Inconvenient Truth of your wallet...

Less than five months to go and the Republicans have absolutely
NOTHING to offer.
Which is more than the DemocRATs do.

We will see if Obama can get re-elected. The health care victory is a
